The Modbus protocol is a world leading industrial automation communication protocol standard. It has been adopted by many leading automation device manufacturers as their communication standard. The Modbus protocol supports a master / slave connection topology using Modbus ASCII / RTU communication over traditional serial RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 ports and Modbus/TCP over Ethernet.
