The CEMView Data Mirror Server is a specially modified version of the standard CEMView Server. This server is required for application scenarios when there is a requirement for data analysis and reporting from a site that is remote from the primary CEMView Server location, when the two sites have to be kept isolated for security reasons or when they are not directly connected by a LAN or WAN, but rather by a low speed connection such as a dial-up modem.
The CEMView Data Mirror Server is designed to solve the requirement of being able to view historical charts and to generate reports at the remote site but it gives up the ability to view real-time data. It accomplishes this by mirroring the database of the remote CEMView server when the secure connection is established. After the data mirroring process is complete, the connection to the remote site is no longer necessary to view historical charts and to generate reports with the CEMView Client.
CEMView Data Mirror Server can serve the data to multiple Remote CEMView Clients applications allowing simultaneous independent access to the data from multiple workstations.
The specific data in the primary CEMView Server to be mirrored by the CEMView Data Mirror Server is fully configurable and can vary from the complete database to just a single data channel. CEMView Data Mirror Server also allows consolidating the data coming from multiple CEMView systems into a single database for corporate reporting purposes.
Typical scenarios of using CEMView Data Mirror Server are:
Example 1:
An application scenario where the CEMView Data Mirror Server is being used by a state Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where the local EPA office has a computer running the CEMView Data Mirror Server and a CEMView Client application. The local EPA personnel is able to dial into the primary CEMView Server computer at a site on a daily or on demand basis, acquire the data from the site and then run any report or view the performance and emissions from the site.
Although it is possible to use a CEMView Remote Client application, establish a VPN connection to the remote site using a dial-up modem, and then use the CEMView Remote Client to view the system, charts and generate reports, the low bandwidth of the dial-up modem connection makes this exercise not very attractive.
Example 2:
An application scenario where the CEMView Data Mirror Server is being used to consolidate the data coming from two separate companies having a requirement to file electronic reports to the local authority as a single entity. Strict security policy requires the network of each of the two companies to be totally isolated from the other party.
Example 3:
An application scenario where the CEMView Data Mirror Server is being used to bring up the emissions data from multiple plants to be used in the corporate office for charting and reporting. Several people in the head office are running CEMView Report Client application to the CEMView Data Mirror Server allowing simultaneous independent access to the data. CEMView Data Mirror Server also uses its VB Scripting extension capability to generate emissions data and status information and updates a separate on-line website every few minutes.
